Proposal Story: Sam + Brent

From Sam:

“Brent and I always say that the two best things about California are the mountains and the beach. When we went to my hometown of Los Angeles for a quick weekend trip, I didn't think anything of it when Brent suggested we take our pup Rosie to a lookout spot we had been to multiple times and then to get drinks at the beach afterwards. I had brunch with my girlfriends that morning so I was already dressed up (good planning on his part!!). We drove to the top of the mountain where the small hike to the lookout started. After a few minutes in, Rosie wanted to turn around. Apparently Brent was freaking out inside - he quickly picked her up and carried her most of the 20 minute walk so she couldn't be an excuse to leave before we made it to the end. On the walk, he was getting sentimental so I had my suspicions. Afterwards he said he thought I kept looking at his pockets, which made him nervous; he was right! I was staring at them, convinced I would see the outline of a ring box. He placed his phone in front of it, so all I could see was the outline of that - he was smart!! When we made it to the lookout point, there was a man with his girlfriend and their dog taking pictures of the scenery facing a different direction than us, but other than that, we were alone. After a few minutes, Brent got really nervous and I knew it was about to happen. He got down on one knee and asked me and Rosie to spend forever with him. Of course I said yes, although to be completely honest, I think I blacked out! I was so shocked and excited that all of it was happening! The man taking photos was actually a photographer set up to capture the moment; I couldn't be more grateful to have those saved forever. Brent's plan to get drinks at the beach was just a decoy to get me to a fun restaurant where our family and friends were waiting to celebrate. We spent the night reminiscing, playing games, and enjoying all of the people who have loved and supported us throughout our relationship - it was perfect.”
