2024 Wedding Trend Forecast: 5 New Trends and 2 Disappearing Trends

Trends in the wedding industry are always changing at a rapid pace! And now with the popularity of tik tok, intsagram, and pinterest, as it relates to the wedding world, trends are being shared even faster! Here are 5 trends I predict we will see more of in 2024, 3 trends that will remain popular, and 2 trends that will be disappearing:

NEW TRENDS IN 2024

Coquette/Parisian Aesthetic

If you are on tik tok, then you have seen the rise of the coquette aesthetic. The popular style is trademarked by bows, something we will see in a lot of weddings in 2024! Bows are going to make a huge comeback, accompanied with a softer more feminine style at weddings. The past few years, we saw a rise in minimalistic and modern weddings, with clean lines, black and white color palettes, and modern typography. As the trends change, we are going to see a shift towards more feminine and lavish aesthetics. I think this aesthetic in particular leans almost French- as it would be well suited for a Parisian palace or a countryside chateau! Here are some pictures that perfectly encapsulate the feminine coquette aesthetic we will be seeing in weddings:

Corset/Embroidered Dresses:

Going hand in hand with the coquette aesthetic, I think we are going to see a rise in more lavish, intricate, and feminine wedding dresses as well. For the past few years, wedding dresses have been fairly plan, with sleek silhouettes, absent of any beading or sparkle. As we move into 2024, I think we will see a lot more dresses adorned with embroidery, rosettes, textures, etc. The other trademark of the 2024 “it girl” dress will be corsets. The corset bodice along with the dropped waist line will be making a big comeback in 2024. To me, this feels like an ipdated, classier version of the SYTTD Pnina Tornai gown that had us all in a chokehold in the early 2010s. Designers in particular that will be popular in 2024 are Vivienne Westwood and Kim Kassas, both for their trademark corset styles and delicate embroidery! Food Styling:

Another popular trend we are going to see in 2024 is the stylization of food- or using food styling as a centerpiece at weddings! Again, this goes hand in hand with the Parisian/coquette aesthetic I mentioned earlier. Think of this as a modern take on a Marie Antoinette inspired lavish dessert table. Some elements of this trend that will be particularly popular are: cherries, grapes, silver styling trays/dishes, and long cakes. Although I don’t think food styling is going to completely replace flowers, I do think couples will start to incorporate food into their centerpieces! Here are some of my favorite examples of how event professionals are styling food for events:

Formal Portraits:

Even though documentary style photography is still going to be popular in 2024, I do think there will be slight shift towards formal portraits as well. This very royal and dramatic style of portrait will start to be mixed in to the wedding day timeline. One bride in particular that comes to mind is Paris Hilton- who had a photo backdrop hung at her venue for her formal bridal portraits. Being a planner in the south, bridal portraits have always been popular with my clients, but I do think they are going to become larger spread in 2024! Editorial Detail Styling:

This trend is a little niche and leans more on the event professionals than the bride and groom- but I think an editorial approach to styling wedding details is going to be popular in 2024! Detail photos on the wedding day refer to the pictures of the invitations, shoes, rings, etc. and for the last few years, vendors have styled these in almost exclusively flat lay styles. We have all seen the invitation suites laid flat and the rings sitting on top of the ring box, etc- but photographers are starting to get more creative in how they style couple’s details on the wedding day! The new style looks a lot like what you would expect to see in a magazine advertisement, and will incorporate elements of the wedding venue or environment for styling! Here are some examples of event professionals who have flawlessly pulled off this trend:

TRENDS THAT ARE STAYING FOR 2024:

Hand Drawn Stationery:

A trend that has taken the wedding industry by storm in the last 1-2 years is hand drawn wedding invitations. I think this trend will stick around for at least another 2-3 years, with everyone putting their own artistic and individual spins on the trend! Here are some recent examples of hand drawn stationery that were popular in 2024, and some updated styles that will remain popular in 2024:

Documentary Photography:

Although I do think that portrait style photography is going to be making a big comeback soon (see above), I do think that the documentary style of photography will remain popular in 2024! The Documentary style of photography has an emphasis on capturing candid moments, in a film like style. Here are some of our favorite examples:

Destination Weddings:

2023 was a huge year for destination weddings and I don’t think 2024 will be any different! In 2023, we saw a lot of couples flock to Italy for their nuptials, a destination that will remain popular for 2024. However, I do think that weddings in France will become popular as well! With the rise of the coquette/feminine aesthetic in weddings, France seems like the most congruent backdrop!

DISAPPEARING TRENDS IN 2024:

Babies breath/white rose combo:

Babies breath made a huge comeback over the last few years, and I think we may be saying goodbye to it in 2024. As couple’s are embracing more color than in past years, the monochromatic white rose + babies breath combination is going to be less popular moving forward. I do think that this trend was beautiful for its time, and if you still love it, then you should absolutely still use it, regardless!

Matching PJ photos:

Matching pajamas for the bridal party has been the standard for easily the last 15 years. I remember being in high school and saving pins of bridesmaids in matching t-shirts or robes, and in recent years, the trend has been updated to silk pajamas or fun prints. However, I do think that the matching pajamas or at least the matching pajama photos are going to start to die out in the next few years. In the bigger picture, large bridal parties are going to be less popular, and by default, the matching PJ group photos are also going to come to an end. Just as it is now more popular for bridesmaids to have mismatched dresses, mismatched PJs are also going to be the new norm!
